VAFD is a community NGO on Vaadhoo Island — empowering local talent, fostering development, and building a future where people thrive with dignity and purpose.
Vaadhoo is home to many talented people with skills across various trades, technology, farming, and craftsmanship. Yet the island faces a real challenge: limited economic activity and few structured ways to earn an income at home.
VAFD was created in 1994 to close that gap — mobilising local talent, encouraging entrepreneurship, and building a strong, self-sustaining community that doesn't have to leave the island to find a future.

We live on Vaadhoo, where the population is small and the economy is limited. We have seen the urgent need to create opportunities for people to earn a living while remaining in their home island. That is why we founded VAFD in 1994 — to build a future right here.
Dedicated individuals steering VAFD's mission forward, elected by the community to serve on the members committee.
